Berkshire village among England’s best places to live

The annual ranking, produced by property specialists Garrington, assesses nearly 1,450 cities, towns and villages using 18 measures, including natural environment, wellbeing, schools, jobs and value for money.

This year’s crown went to Marple in Greater Manchester, which climbed from fourth in 2025 to take the overall top spot.

Twyford’s return to the top 20 comes after a remarkable few years in the national spotlight.

The Wokingham Borough village was previously crowned overall number one in Garrington’s 2024 list, beating more than 1,400 locations, before slipping down the table and now climbing back to 14th.

Past reports have highlighted Twyford’s clean air, low crime and access to green space, along with Elizabeth Line links to London, strong schools, fast broadband and proximity to high‑paying jobs.

Property experts say that combination of village feel, connectivity and long‑term value continues to make Twyford stand out in 2026, keeping it firmly on the radar of families, commuters and downsizers alike.

A “picture‑postcard” village feel, period homes, family houses and modern developments give buyers range and help Twyford rate well on heritage and housing quality criteria
