Divya Kasturi presents To Varnam with love

21 November 2020 @ 7:00 pm

An engaging story of love, devotion and commitment – to a god, to a myth, to a way of moving and being.

Exquisite perfomer Divya Kasturi unpacks the Varnam, a ‘piece de resistance’ of a Bharatanatyam repertoire performance. Personal experience, artistic lineage, historical nostalgia and reverence for tradition are explored by way of dolls, humour, singing and beautiful South Asian and western choreography.
The show welcomes the audience into an intimate story, whether they are familiar with the text or about to discover and enjoy something new.

Divya Kasturi has worked with leading British theatre company Complicite and in the past year choreographed a musical, selected for award-winnign artists’ Akram Khan and Wayne McGregor residencies and performed in India. Divya is formally trained in Indian classical music (carnatic) and has lent vocals for internationally acclaimed composers: Sir Paul McCartney, Nitin Sawhney and Maestro Ilayaraja.

To Varnam…with Love acknowledges funding from Arts Council England National Lottery Project Grants and support from Choreodrome at The Place.

Divya Kasturi is Artist in Residence at Trestle Arts Base.
